Travelogue#44: Lima

November 22, 2011

The 12 hour bus ride from Chiclayo back to Lima went by quickly. I watched a couple movies and then went to bed and got up an hour before arriving in Lima. Went back to "Pilars" place which is the "Casa del Mochilero" in Miraflores and they also have my 2nd suitcase in storage for me to pick up.

I saw a German guy on the streets of Miraflores that came up and wanted to talk to me and I had a good feeling he wanted money (that is usually the reason for people going out of their way to talk to you). He said he had been robbed and I told him to go to the German embassy in Lima and he said it was closed which I thought immediately was bullshit since it was 12:30 noon and I could tell the way he was dressed that he was probably another gringo bum living in South America. He was the first German bum I have seen so I gave him $2US even though he wanted $10US since I know most self respecting people that get robbed of everything will find a way to get money even though he did mention calling his sister in Germany but his shoes were ratty looking and his clothes looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a week. I certainly don't mind helping people out that are in a situation but 95% of the time it is bums just wanting free money to live a little longer down here and always ask you "Do you speak english?". After I gave him 7 soles he eyed up my stuff and said "Yeah I wouldn't mind that chocolate milk drink of yours" and I told him he has a bit of money now and not to push his luck.

My legs feel a little tired after my 2 month trip so have just been chilling out in Miraflores for Monday and Tuesday and not doing a whole lot. I think 2 months traveling down here was plenty for me. My flight is at 12:05am with a quick stop in Houston and a 1 hour stop over in San Francisco and I will be in Vancouver at 2pm on Wednesday afternoon.

It was a great trip and Peru was my favourite country to visit but they do have a lot of history here as well.  I met other great travelers along the way which is part of the fun and adventure for me while traveling.

So I hope you all enjoyed riding around in the back of my backpack for the past 9 weeks and seeing a bit of South America.

Adios Amigos!!

PS: I am going to start my 2006 Asian travelogue and when I get home I will get all the pictures for it along with all the emails from back then. It will be a work in progress!

UPDATE: Back in Canada now. After my 3 flights I was surprised that I didn't have to go through any Canadian customs officials upon arrival since it was all computerized where you have your passport scanned and your customs card scanned by a computer and then show your receipt to one customs official with your luggage as you leave. So my 2 bags of "ayahuasca" got home safely but I didn't declare it haha.
