One thing I hear a lot of from hotel staff when I request something is "mas tarde" or more later. It can mean they will get around to doing it in an hour or maybe never. This morning the internet was down since the power was going out a couple times last night and when I told them that the wi-fi connection isn't hooked up they replied "mas tarde". I felt like saying "NO, you will do it NOW!! Pronto amiga!!".
The cellular company "Claro" is big down here in South America and they advertise everywhere just like coca cola. Big skyscrapers that say CLARO on them and people with banners for Claro wearing Claro t-shirts. Claro is doing some serious mass marketing down here for cell phone use.
I walked to where the collectivos depart and jumped on the one for "Sipan". It was half full and they don't leave until they are full and 3 guys were working on the engine and after waiting 30 minutes I felt like leaving and forgetting about Sipan but just then they left which is a one hour drive from Chiclayo to Sipan. I checked out the Sipan museum but most of the good stuff is at the other musuem I visited yesterday.
There are 2 big mud brick pyramids in Sipan. I spent about an hour looking around but you can't go on top of them but just around them and their is a platform nearby where all the tombs were discovered. The earliest one being from 70AD. I think I have seen far too many ruins on this trip as I am now looking at these sites like a big pile of sand. Sometimes you need your imagination to reconstruct these old ruins to their former days but I guess this place really wasn't on my MUST SEE list and instead just came out there to kill the day since I didn't think there would be much to do in Chiclayo.
In the afternoon I just wandered around the markets to see all the different gadgets for sale but didn't see any of those rechargeable flashlights for $1.33US. So now I am in my hotel room and will just chill out for the next few hours and then shower before grabbing my bus for Lima at 7:30pm.
My next blog entry will be my last blog entry and that will be on Tuesday evening just before I head off to catch my flight home back to Canada.
